Pro Athletes Dropping The Ball

Pro athletes’ bad behavior, a la Terrell Owens and Roberto Alomar, teaches children one thing: if you’re good, you can get away with anything. Read more >.

I want to stop this poor example from spreading, so I wrote a book about it.

The Death of Sportsmanship…And How to Revive It (February 2007, Cypress House Press), says bad sportsmanship is on the rise as children see their favorite athletes misbehaving on and off the court but still succeeding in their sport.

Check out the new book The Death of Sportsmanship....

Brian,
I was happy to hear you on WJOX the other morning. It gives me hope that some day we can go back to using sports and competition to develop the type of kids society benefits from, and not the type children we are ashamed of. I plan on purchasing your book today.

A couple of books I would reccomend to you, if you have not already read them. First, "Just Let the Kids Play" by Bob Bigelow. Second, "Really Winning" by Dr. Jim Mastrich. Third "When Winning Costs Too Much"..can't remember the authors, but know the are physicians.

Finally,"Season of Life" by Jeffery Marx. This is the story of Joe Ehrmann and his role as a coach at the Gilman School. His teaching and success is founded in a simple principle of loving and caring about his players.

I have been working with Joe's organization, Building Men an Women for Others, on trying to bring Joe to Birmingham for a Keynote address or coaching workshop. If this something you might be interested in, let me know.

Brian:
Was happy to stumble across your blog. I'm happy to say that sportsmanship IS NOT dead with the younger generation. See this blog about a couple of NY area football teams: http://www.savingtheirseason.blogspot.com/
